Change the world

"Mommy, mommy! Let's pretend John is a dinosaur and he wants to eat you and I am a superhero and I'm gonna save you!"

"When I grow up I'm going to Africa and give all the hungry children food."

"In ten years I'm going to be the Leader of the World and everyone is going to do what I say!"

"I want to make war stop. I can make the war stop, can't I mommy?"

"Teacher, I want to study hard, because I want to cure cancer."

"Daddy, I'm going to fire the boss who fired you because I'm going to be the most powerful man in the world!

...

"When I was a child, I used to say I was going to Africa and save the children."
"What happened?"
"I grew up."

"I always used to say I was going to stop the wars all around the world."
"How sweet! I was going to be a teacher."

"Remember good old times, when we pretended to be superheroes?"
"Haha, yes! Wasn't it lovely, the blissful ignorance?"

"I wanted to change the world when I was younger. Look at me now, baking omelets for people who won't even tip us."
"Don't worry, you still have years to live."
"Haha, I really stopped dreaming by now!"

...

A girl was sitting on a bench in the park. Her head was facing down, hands rubbing tearful eyes. The soft sobbing sounds were heart wrenching.
A old lady carrying two large bags stopped in front of the bench.
"What is it girl? Why are you crying out here all alone?"
The girl looked up, large tears rolling down over her cheeks. She hiccupped, but didn't answer.
"You can tell me, love. I won't hurt you."
"M-mommy says... I said I wanted to change the world and make everyone happy. And mommy said I couldn't."
A soft smile spread over the old lady's face.
"You can't? Why did she say that?"
The girl's lip trembled and she looked at the woman, not answering again.
"Don't worry, dear. Of course you can change the world. You only need to want it."
"How?"
The old lady put down her bags. She opened the zipper at the top end of the left bag, and dug in both hands. After rummaging through the bag a little, she pulled out a large white fluffy stuffed cat. She held it up to the tearful face of the girl.
Red puffy eyes widened, mouth dropping open in a surprised 'oh'.
Slowly two hands reached out and fingers tentatively wrapped around the front paws of the cat.
The old lady let go of the toy and smiled. "Keep it. Play with it. You need it as much as the child it would have gone to."
"Thank you madam!" The child pulled the cat close to her chest and smiled brightly, tears still on her cheeks but not falling anymore.
"Tell me, dear. Did I not just change your world for the better?"
The girl looked at her, not comprehending.
The lady smiled again. "Just go play. Don't cry anymore."
"Yes Madam! Thank you!"
The girl hopped off the bench and ran down the path, laughing while swinging around her new toy.
Shaking her head, the lady sighed. "How simple some people are these days. Can't change the world? Ha!"
She closed her bag, picked both up, and slowly continued her way through the park.
Ah yes, I wrote something. Rare thing indeed. I prefer talking over writing, I can't type as fast as I can think but in speech I get quite close ;)

But I actually wrote this. As an art trade with :iconshadowkaru15: for a event of :iconmy-penchants: I am not part of the group, because I don't have confidence in my writing enough to do this on regular basis.
The request was something on the song 1972 by Anssi Kela ([link]) Luckily for me she was so kind to provide me a summary of the song, because my Finnish is rather... uhhh, let's say my Finnish skills=zero
Her description: 'In short, the song is about how people grow up and when they were kid they wanted to change the world, but now they all have ordinary job.' Google translate provided me with some fragments from the song (but he couldn't manage most of it)
So I seriously hope this gets close enough to the request... I'm not a very poetic person, so I hope this will do :XD:

I think you did a wonderful work with it and I can understand if google didn't do a good job with the translating, Anssi sings a lot on dialect...

:glomp: but you really put a nice spin on it and thank you so much for writing this^^
